Nageshvara Temple

Just next to the bank of Begur lake, is a 1300 year old Dravidian Style temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thee are two shrines within the temple complex, the Nageshvara and Nageshvarasvami, both of the temple were constructed during the rule of Western Ganga Dynasty Kings Nitimarga I (also called Ereganga Neetimarga, r. 843-870) and Ereyappa Nitimarga II (also called Ereganga Neetimarga II, r. 907-921). The remaining shrines are considered a later day legacy of the rule of the Chola Dynasty over the region. An Old Kannada inscription, dated c. 890, that describes a "Bengaluru war" (modern Bangalore city) was discovered in this temple complex by the epigraphist R. Narasimhachar.

Locals believed each of Lingas of Shiva have the power/energy save from several problems faced by the people.
The five Lingas are known as

  • Sri Nageshvara with Parvathi, which is the oldest temple and he blesses everyone with anything they want from Lord Shiva.
  •  Sri Choleshwara Swamy:- He Cure skin ailment
  • Sri Nagareshwara Swamy:- He helps everyone with solving their business related problems.
  • Sri Kalikamateshwara Swamy:- He blesses with Children.
  • Sri Karenshwara Swamy:- He blesses with good health.

Some of the unique feature of this temple are that, there is an idol of Ganesha with only two hands which is very rare. There is an idol of Sun god installed facing west, in India this is the only place where idol of Sun god installed in west direction.

Nandi

The Nageshvara temple has a simple square sanctum a vestibule (antarala) that connects the sanctum to a "great closed hall" (maha-mantapa or navaragna) which leads to an open hall (agra-mantapa). The open hall has six unequally spaced pillars, with an image of Nandi placed on a "lotus platform" (padma-pitha) in the outer bay. You can find some other idols in this area like the Ganesha, Vishnu, chandra etc.  At its eastern part water body adds a majestic background, with calm water and waterbirds. This temple is under construction now a days.
